The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) publishes “Health at a Glance” report periodically based on comparable data on the performance of health systems in its member countries (34 wealthier countries) and partner countries (Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Indonesia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russian Federation and South Africa) in some cases. The United States of America once again topped in the statistics that nobody wants to take the top- Obesity and its trend. These are the findings regarding obesity reported in the most recent “Health at a Glance 2015.”
35.3% of US population aged 15 years and over are obese. In comparison, only 3.7 % and 4.7% of the population are obese in Japan and Korea, respectively. The obese rate of 35.3% of US is far greater than the average of obese rate of 34 OECD member countries, 19.0%.
The obesity rate of US is getting worse. In 2000, its obesity rate was 31% – the highest in the world at that time. In 2015, it is 35% – still the highest in the world and getting worse.
